Racks
I stopped in at Pauls Valley Hospital yesterday to install a Dell server that will be used for the HL7 interface broker. The Carestream PACS servers are due to arrive on Monday with the install team set to arrive on Tuesday. The customer had a local contractor install a 4 post rack in their telephone closet that we were going to use to hold the computers.
Well, when I went to install the Dell rack rails for the broker, I found out that the rails were too long for the installed 4-post rack. WHAT? I thought all 4-post racks were the same depth. I called their contract IT person and he said the rack was designed for IBM servers and that Dell servers required deeper racks. That was a new one on me. I have installed all kinds of servers in all kinds of racks, including big data centers, and never heard of such a thing.
Oh well, the contract IT person said he would order in a deeper rack and have it installed by Tuesday before the install team arrives.
