Pauls Valley Hospital Installation

We are getting very close to installing the PACS system at the Pauls Valley Hospital. They currently have a Kodak CR Elite and CR Classic for the department, along with a Dryview 8900 film printer. InTelemed reworked the internal network and installed a new Sonicwall firewall and Cisco router, replacing older equipment that had been in place several years. Working with local contractor Tom Bunch, we reorganized their telephone closet into a computer room and installed a 4 post rack for the servers. Again a gigabit switch was used for the radiology department to speed image transmission and viewing throughout the hospital.

Tomorrow I will be on site to install a Dell Poweredge server that will be used for the PACS broker. Carestream has developed their own in-house broker software that runs on a stand-alone server. It is MUCH less expensive than their prior outsourced broker. Pauls Valley Hospital is one of the final trade trials for this enhanced software.

Hosted Archiving
In addition to the broker server, I will be installing a specialized firewall from Carestream that allows them to connect the radiology network directly to their data center in Rochester, NY. Pauls Valley Hospital opted for Carestream's Hosted Information Management Storage (HIMS) that allows the PACS server on site to send images for archiving to Carestream's data centers located in New York and Canada. Hence, all the data will be backed up and protected automatically each night, helping to eliminate the worries by the Pauls Valley Hospital staff in regards to protecting their valuable data.

Next week Carestream will be on-site to begin the PACS installation. InTelemed will be there to assist. Hopefully everything will go smoothly!
